Emergencies we treat

Any dental pain or trauma deserves prompt attention. Here are the most common emergencies we handle.

Broken or cracked tooth

Trauma, impact, or accidental bite — we assess and repair the tooth.

Severe toothache

Acute, throbbing, or nocturnal pain — often a sign of infection. Quick treatment to relieve pain.

Dental abscess

Swelling, fever, discharge: a medical emergency that cannot wait.

Knocked-out tooth (trauma)

Keep the tooth in milk or under your tongue and call immediately — every minute counts.

Lost crown or filling

Extreme sensitivity or functional discomfort: we recement or protect the tooth without delay.

Dental bleeding

Post-extraction or traumatic bleeding that won't stop — contact us right away.

Painful wisdom tooth

Pericoronitis or difficult eruption: quick relief and assessment.

Broken appliance or mouth injury

Wire poking your cheek, broken nightguard — we adapt the care to your situation.

What to do while waiting for your appointment

Broken tooth

Rinse gently with warm water. Keep the fragment if possible. Avoid very hot or cold foods on the affected area.

Toothache

Take an over-the-counter painkiller (ibuprofen or acetaminophen). Avoid heat on the area. Call us.

Dental abscess

Never try to drain an abscess yourself. Rinse gently with salt water. Seek emergency care — an untreated infection can spread quickly.

Knocked-out tooth

Hold the tooth by the crown, not the root. Rinse it gently without scrubbing. Store it in cold milk or saline. Come within the hour — replantation success drops rapidly after 30–60 minutes.

Lost crown

Keep the crown safe. Do not try to reglue it with super glue. Call us for an urgent appointment.

Frequently asked questions — Dental emergencies

Can I walk in without an appointment for an emergency?

We recommend calling ahead at 514 528-1587 so we can reserve a priority slot for you. In case of an absolute emergency, walk in and we will do our best to see you the same day.

How much does an emergency visit cost?

Emergency consultation fees are similar to a regular visit. We accept card, cash, and direct billing to most private insurance plans. The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) also covers certain emergency procedures.

What are your emergency hours?

We are available Monday to Thursday from 9 am to 6 pm and Friday from 9 am to 2 pm. Outside these hours, leave a voicemail at 514 528-1587 — we call you back as a priority at opening.

My tooth was knocked out — what should I do immediately?

Handle the tooth by the crown, never the root. Rinse it gently without scrubbing the root. Store it in cold milk or saline. Call us immediately — the chances of successful replantation drop rapidly after 30 to 60 minutes.

Do you treat children in emergencies?

Yes, we treat patients of all ages including children. Dental trauma in children (baby or permanent teeth) requires rapid assessment to avoid complications with their development.

How do I know if I have a dental abscess?

Signs of an abscess include: intense throbbing pain, swelling of the gum or cheek, persistent bad taste in your mouth, fever, and sensitivity to pressure or heat. An untreated abscess can spread — seek emergency care.

Do you work with insurance for emergencies?

Yes. We offer direct billing with most private insurance providers. Bring your insurance card and we submit the claim directly. We are also a registered Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) provider.

How do I get to the clinic in an emergency?

We are located at 1357 Avenue du Mont-Royal Est (between Boyer and Garnier streets), a 3-minute walk from Mont-Royal metro station (orange line). Street parking is available nearby.
