Frequently asked questions
Are tooth extractions painful?
Extractions are performed under local anesthesia and should not be painful during the procedure. Post-operative discomfort (24–48h) is managed with standard pain relievers.
What is a gum graft?
It is a procedure where gingival tissue (taken from the palate or a tissue bank) is grafted onto a recession area to cover the exposed root and prevent sensitivity and bone loss.
How long is recovery after oral surgery?
For a simple extraction, 24–48 hours. For a gum graft or implant placement, expect 3 to 7 days before returning to normal activity.
Can I eat normally after a tooth extraction?
Avoid hard, hot foods and straws for the first 24 hours to protect the blood clot. Stick to soft foods (soups, yogurt, mashed potatoes). You can generally resume normal eating after 48 to 72 hours.
Is a gum graft painful?
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and is not painful during surgery. Mild to moderate post-operative discomfort (palate tenderness, slight swelling) is common for 3 to 5 days and is managed with standard pain relievers.
